Grannies go patriotic !

Abbreviations:

ch - chain
sc - single crochet
dc - double crochet
st - stitch
yo - yarn over

Materials List:

2 oz Red worsted weight yarn
3 oz White worsted weight yarn
2 oz Blue worsted weight yarn
Size "H" Crochet Hook

Tapestry Needle

Granny Motif: pattern requires 15 squares total. Make 8 with blue centers and 7 with red centers.

With first color, ch 4, join to beginning ch to form a ring, ch 3 (counts as first dc now and throughout)

Rnd 1: 2 dc in the ring, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 1 in the ring) three times, join with slip stitch to first, switch to White, ch 3, turn

Rnd 2: (2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in first ch 1 space. Ch 1, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc, ch1 in next ch 1 space) three times, join with slip stitch to first, switch to second color, ch 3, turn

Rnd 3: 2 dc in first ch 1 space, *(3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1 in corner ch 1 space), 3 dc in next ch 1 space; repeat from * twice. (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1 in final corner ch 1 space, join with slip stitch to first, finish off, weave in loose ends.

 

Using tapestry needle and red or blue yarn, sew grannies into a strip alternating between blue and red centers; begin and end strip with blue center grannies.

 

Border:

Rnd 1: Join White anywhere along the edge of the strip with a slip stitch. Ch 1, sc in each stitch around all four sides working (sc, ch 1, sc) in the four corners. Join with slip stitch to first. Ch 1, DO NOT turn.

Rnd 2: Sc in same st as joining and in each sc around working (sc, ch 1, sc) in the four corners. Finish off, weave in loose ends.
